SATURN-TITAN CHASSIS

CJM Class 60071 on Saturn Titan Chassis - Photo by Jason WhitlockCJM Class 60071 on Saturn Titan Chassis - Photo by Jason Whitlock

Jason Whitlock took delivery of the first Production Saturn-Titan chassis on 15th April 2011! His initial comment:-

"60071 arrived on shed and after a quick turn round inspection it was put to work straight away! What a fantastic model, it just purrs along, thanks for the extra work regarding the second man!"

Jason has been involved in testing CJM's new chassis since last November (along with a number of other hardened CJM customers) and opted to have the chassis of his latest purchase 60071 in EWS livery fitted with "Titan" components. A comprehensive analysis of performance data will be published later in the year. At present 66842 and 59401 (with different parts) are being thoroughly tested to establish a warranty to 2018 is viable!

How does the mechanism differ from the existing Saturn chassis? In simple terms the loco trades a very high top speed with a more scale speed and vastly improved slow speed running and improved traction. Now it has to be said a standard Saturn chassis is on a par with the best money can buy so these changes are a relative thing, That said all "testers" have been highly impressed and in due course I will make their comments public.

In the meantime testing continues with a brief to try and establish the chassis breaking point and at the same time establish just what the operating limits are. As part of the program those testing the new chassis are able to opt for a Titan chassis in any new product ordered, I am also giving an undertaking that a conventional Saturn chassis can be installed in the event the mechanism doesn't prove viable in the longer term.

If you wish to partake in the program you will need to own a fair cross section of CJM Saturn chassis and have a layout of sufficient size to run long trains, gradients would also be useful.

As previously indicated I will publish more information and photos in due course.

Class 58 cab - framed imageThe Class 58 is really making progress and whilst it's going to be early June before first pictures hit the site the wait is going to be worthwhile! Like most things getting the model 95% right is relatively straight forward it's the other 5% that’s comes hard, in this case the cabs, they more than anything have proved really tricky to profile correctly. Having seen both "OO" versions I'm not the only one, although I reckon I've got it licked as well as the other intricacies of detailing!

Initial production will be 58001 - 035 in revised format with 580036 - 050 as built which means all liveries available from launch. The early version based on 58001 - 035 in Red stripe Railfreight livery will be available spring 2009. CJM 68001 Customer Special

The "Customer Special Site" is really firing peoples imagination expect to see some very interesting models on the site over the coming weeks! With just about every possible livery appearing, September will see the launch of your own personal private operator liveries with transfers for rolling stock to match your locos.

Whilst the website has been a little neglected of late expect not only the updates mentioned but changes right across the site over the coming weeks.

If I have missed your own query or you wish to order any particular model you can use the “E-Mail” contact page on the CJM website or you can telephone me on the usual number to discuss your requirements!

Kind Regards

Chris Marchant.

CJM has new locomotive in development - The Class 58

The all new Class 58 is due for release in June of 2008. The loco will be available in two versions and four liveries.

Class 58 sector liveryIn 'The Studio' section of this web site you will be able to follow each stage of production from design to final release, with plenty of images, drawings and a splash of other media forms thrown in for good measure. The model requires a totally new chassis design which is well under way, and will soon to be featured in 'The Studio'  as well. Make sure you register your e-mail with us so be kept up to date on further developments.

CJM Class 58 Development Update - 10/2/2008

Work on the class 58 is proceeding well with body shell now complete with bonnet, cabs and sole bar in place. Work has now started on adding detail, e.g. roof panels, side doors etc. These will all be etched and then added to master. It is hoped to start the drawings for these this week. Over the weekend the fly wheel chassis has been installed in the body and with minute adjustments to both has resulted in a neat snug fit.

Over the last week, several of you have asked "How scale is this model going to be?" I am pleased to be able to report that in respect of all main dimensions e.g. length, width, height and bonnet width the model is currently under size! Once the final detail panels, silencer etc are included the model should be spot on! This also goes for bogie and axle centres. All this accuracy and twin fly wheel drive shoe horned into a chassis which at its widest is just under 11mm. It also fair to say that having measured and photographed 58016 last autumn  I picked up the details missed by the "OO" fraternity and more than one or two missed in the reviews!

Whilst no photos are being posted at present, I anticipate putting these up once all etch drawings have been reduced and test fitted on the master. Not long then, before the class 58 breaks cover! Read More: Class 58 Product Page »
